Thanks to the Itaipú Dam, shared with Brazil, and the Yacyretá Dam, with Argentina, Paraguay generates virtually all of its electricity through hydroelectric power. The surplus that it does not consume is exported mainly to both countries, making it one of the region's major producers and exporters of renewable energy.
