The Metropolitan Cathedral and the Cabildo make up the historical and civic heart of Asunción, situated facing the Plaza de Armas and offering a privileged view of the bay. The Cathedral is the city's main Catholic church. Its current structure dates back to the mid-19th century, standing out for its imposing neoclassical facade and a silver-clad high altar, a true work of sacred art. The Cultural Center of the Republic, located in the Cabildo, is the former legislative building (an elegant palace with colonial arches and yellow tones). Today, this center is the guardian of Paraguayan cultural heritage.
